Amid the raging trade war, the faceoff between BRICS nations and US President Donald Trump is set to intensify next week, as Chinese President Xi Jinping rolls out the red carpet for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and several leaders from Central Asia, the Middle East, South Asia, and Southeast Asia at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.

Ahead of the SCO summit, experts pointed out that while bloc expansion will be a key focus, the mega-event will also serve as Xi Jinping’s way of showing the US a mirror of the emerging new world order, Reuters reported.

"Xi will want to use the summit as an opportunity to showcase what a post-American-led international order begins to look like and that all White House efforts since January to counter China, Iran, Russia, and now India have not had the intended effect," editor-in-chief of The China-Global South Project, Eric Olander, a research agency was quoted as saying by Reuters.
