Singapore's top legal disciplinary court struck Pritam Singh off the advocates' roll after his dishonesty conviction. The ruling deepens the fallout from the parliamentary lying case and adds pressure on the Workers' Party chief.

Singapore's leading opposition politician Pritam Singh has been struck off the roll of advocates over his criminal conviction for lying to a parliamentary committee. The order was passed by the Court of Three Judges, the city-state's highest disciplinary body for the legal profession, according to The Straits Times.
Singh, 50, is the secretary-general of the Workers' Party and a Member of Parliament. A non-practising lawyer, he faced disciplinary proceedings after his conviction on offences involving dishonesty.
On March 4, the Law Society of Singapore began disciplinary proceedings against Singh in compliance with the Legal Profession Act. Under the law, a lawyer can be struck off, suspended from practice for up to five years, censured, fined up to SGD 100,000, or face a combination of these sanctions. The proceedings were based on information from the Attorney-General's Chambers that Singh had been convicted of offences involving "fraud or dishonesty", the report said.
Singh, a former Leader of the Opposition, was convicted by a district court in February 2025 on two counts of lying under oath to the Committee of Privileges. The case was linked to his colleague and former Workers' Party MP Raeesah Khan's lie in Parliament in 2021 about details of a sexual assault case that she had alleged was mishandled by the police in Singapore. In December 2025, Singh lost his appeal against the conviction in the High Court and paid a fine of SGD 14,000. He was stripped of the Leader of the Opposition title in January this year.
Delivering the judgment, Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon said it was undisputed that dishonesty was an "integral element" of Singh's offences. Singh has led the Workers' Party since 2018. The party has 10 elected MPs and two Non-Constituency MPs in Singapore's 108-seat Parliament, while the remaining seats are held by the People's Action Party, which has governed the country since independence.
The ruling means Singh has been removed from the roll of advocates following his conviction and the disciplinary action taken under Singapore's legal profession rules.
