Violent protests erupted in Kathmandu, Nepal, as pro-monarchy demonstrators clashed with police. Protesters demanded the restoration of the monarchy, the re-establishment of Nepal as a Vedic Sanatan Hindu state, and abolition of the provincial system. One person was killed as the protest spiralled out of control. The unrest follows former king Gyanendra Shah's video message seeking public support for the monarchy on Democracy Day.
