Torrential floods hit the Himalayan border areas of Nepal and Tibet on Wednesday, killing at least nine people and damaging roads, bridges and power projects. Authorities in both countries are bracing for more casualties and wider destruction.

At least 16 people have died, and 105 Indians remain missing after massive flash floods swept through Nepal’s northern Rasuwa district along the Tibet border on Wednesday, leaving behind a trail of destruction across villages, roads, bridges and key infrastructure. At least 400 people were missing after the disaster hit the Himalayan country, authorities said.
The scale of devastation is starkly visible in videos from the affected areas. Visuals showed floodwaters and debris surging through settlements, with houses appearing partially submerged or damaged as muddy waters tear through the area.
Elsewhere, videos captured the extent of the destruction across mountainous valleys, with a wide stretch of land covered by floodwater and debris. Footage released by Nepal Police also showed what appeared to be a huge debris field cutting through the landscape, highlighting how far the floodwaters spread downstream.
The floods were reported in and around Timure and Syapru Besi in Rasuwa, where the Bhote Koshi river surged after waters entered from the Tibetan side at around 9 am.
Entire settlements were reportedly swept away, while vehicles, houses and construction sites were damaged or carried away by the powerful current.
