Russia on Sunday claimed to have captured two villages in southern Ukraine, as its forces gradually advance against Ukrainian troops, who remain heavily outnumbered in the region.
The Russian Ministry of Defence announced via Telegram that its soldiers had captured Rivnopillia and Mala Tokmachka, located in the Zaporizhzhia region. Although the Zaporizhzhia front is less active than the eastern front, where most of the fighting continues, Russian forces—better equipped and larger in number—are gradually making gains in both areas.
In eastern Ukraine, fighting is focused around the key logistical hub of Pokrovsk, which Russian troops have infiltrated over the past weeks, weakening Ukrainian defences and posing significant challenges for Kyiv.
Meanwhile, peace talks between Ukraine and Russia remain stalled, and a planned summit in Budapest between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin was cancelled.
Zelenskyy In Greece
In a separate development, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Athens on Sunday to finalise a gas supply agreement with Greece. His visit, his first to the country since 2023, aims to secure winter fuel for Ukraine following heavy Russian strikes on the nation’s energy infrastructure.
Footage from Greek public television showed Zelenskyy being welcomed at Athens Airport by Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hadzidakis.
Before his trip, Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine would import gas from Greece to compensate for losses caused by Moscow’s bombing campaign, which in October halted 60 percent of Ukraine’s main heating fuel production.
Kyiv has also secured financing agreements covering nearly two billion euros ($2.32 billion) in production losses, backed by the Ukrainian government, European banks guaranteed by the European Commission, and Norwegian support.
