'Saw Nothing, Did Nothing Wrong': Bill Clinton Testifies Before US Congress On Epstein Ties

Unlike his wife Hillary, Bill Clinton has a well-documented social relationship with Epstein, although he insisted on cutting off all ties before the latter's 2008 conviction.

Former US President Bill Clinton testified before a US Congressional panel on Friday, where he denied wrongdoing over his ties with notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and tried to shift the focus to Donald Trump’s own relations with the late disgraced financier.

Bill and Hillary Clinton appeared before the House Oversight Committee as part of an investigation into Epstein’s criminal network. This came after Clinton featured prominently in the Epstein files, although he insists that he broke ties before Epstein’s 2008 conviction for sex crimes.

“I saw nothing, and I did nothing wrong," Clinton said in his opening statement, shared on social media. Meanwhile, the Republican chair of the House committee probing Epstein, James Comer, said he looked forward to “asking lots of questions" ahead of Clinton’s testimony.

Democrats Call For Trump’s Testimony

While not mentioning Trump directly, Clinton emphasised that “no person is above the law, even presidents — especially presidents." This came amid calls from Democrats on the committee for Trump to be quizzed.

His testimony came after former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton testified behind closed doors to the committee as part of a broader investigation into Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell. Hillary Clinton stated she had “no idea" about Epstein’s criminal activities and did not recall ever encountering him.

She also denied flying on Epstein’s plane, visiting his properties, or having relevant information to add to the investigation. She accused the Republican-led committee of “partisan political theater" and called for Donald Trump to be deposed, noting his name appears “tens of thousands of times" in the Epstein files.

‘Kangaroo Court’

Prior to this testimony, Bill Clinton likened the proceedings to a “kangaroo court" and demanded a public hearing. The Congressional testimony comes with greater consequences for the former president, who has acknowledged extensive interactions with Epstein but denied visiting his private island.

Records show Bill Clinton flew on Epstein’s private jet at least 16 times between 2002 and 2003 for Clinton Foundation work. The Department of Justice released photos in late 2025 showing him with Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, including images of him in a pool and hot tub. His spokesperson maintained that the former president knew nothing of Epstein’s crimes and cut ties well before Epstein’s 2006 indictment.

The Clintons only agreed to testify after the House Oversight Committee, led by Chairman James Comer, threatened to hold them in contempt of Congress. There has been no suggestion of criminal wrongdoing by either Bill or Hillary Clinton in connection with Epstein’s crimes so far.

On the other hand, Democrats say the investigation is being weaponised to attack Trump’s political opponents rather than to conduct legitimate oversight. The depositions are being held in Chappaqua, New York, where the Clintons reside.
