Sensex Today | Stock Market LIVE Updates: Benchmark equity indices Nifty 50 and Sensex extended their declines on Thursday, led by deep losses in domestic banking stocks as the US Federal Reserve signalled a slower rate of monetary policy easing in their latest meeting. The Sensex fell 964 points, closing at 79,218, while the Nifty 50 dropped 247 points, settling at 23,952. With this fall, the indices are now down for the third consecutive day.
US markets had another choppy session as the Dow Jones just about managed to snap a 10-day losing streak, ending with gains of 0.1%. This was the longest losing streak the index had since 1974. However, the index cooled off nearly 450 points from the day's high, barely managing to close above the flat line. The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq posted a 70 and 250-point drop from their respective day's high meant a close below the flatline for these indices.
