The Nifty 50 reversed from the support level around 22,300 and ended the session with a gain of 38 points at 22,498. The Sensex slipped 13 points, closing at 74,102. While the broader market showed some positive momentum, the Nifty Bank index plunged 363 points to 47,854, dragged down by a steep fall in IndusInd Bank shares.
The sell-off in US equities continued on Tuesday, as did the constant flip-flop in the country's trade policy, which has rattled markets and consumer confidence alike in the recent past.
The Dow Jones fell nearly 500 points on Tuesday, taking the two-day drop to 1,400 points. The S&P 500 fell 0.8%, while the Nasdaq was an outperformer by not falling as much, ending 0.2% lower.
