In a rare public acknowledgment, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed that Indian ballistic missiles struck Nur Khan Airbase and other locations within Pakistan during the early hours of May 10. But several Pakistani social media users strongly criticized Shehbaz Sharif’s comments, particularly his admission of swimming during the Indian strikes and the decision-making regarding ceasefire with India.

Shehbaz Sharif On Nur Khan Base Attack

Speaking at a ceremony in Islamabad, Shehbaz Sharif detailed receiving a 2:30 AM phone call from Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir informing him of the Indian missile attacks.

“In the intervening night of May 9-10, around 2:30 AM, General Asif Munir called me through a secure phone and told me India has launched its ballistic missiles. One has landed at the Nur Khan airbase and some at other areas," Shehbaz Sharif. The Indian strikes were part of Operation Sindoor a retaliatory military action launched on May 7th, following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.

Shehbaz Sharif revealed he was interrupted during a morning swim to receive news of a ceasefire offer.

“It was morning time. I had my secure phone with me while I was swimming. As luck would have it, the phone rang," he recounted.

The call, from Asim Munir, conveyed that “we have given India a powerful response but now they are seeking a ceasefire", Shehbaz Sharif said, adding, “I told him that this is a matter of pride that you responded with force against the enemy and now they are forced to do a ceasefire."

Pakistani Creator Questions Shehbaz Sharif

A Pakistani content creator shared a video on X (formerly Twitter) highlighting the incongruity of Shehbaz Sharif’s remarks, stating, “Pakistan was being bombed and our PM was taking a swim."

The creator further asserted a critical stance, stating, “A clever man always makes mistakes and we are here to catch his mistakes."

Targeting Pakistan Prime Minister’s comments on a ceasefire with India, the creator said, “So without asking anyone, either the Parliament or anyone, he instantly said yes to the ceasefire."

The creator concluded by questioning the legitimacy of the remarks by Shehbaz Sharif as he implored Pakistanis, “How can this even be true. Use your basic common sense."

What India Said On Ceasefire With Pakistan

India confirmed that a ceasefire agreement with Pakistan was reached on May 10 following direct communication between their respective Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs). This agreement aimed to halt all firing and military actions across land, air, and sea, bringing a temporary pause while India adopted a stance of cautious vigilance. New Delhi emphasized India’s unwavering commitment to countering terrorism in all its forms and asserted the country’s inherent right to respond decisively to any ceasefire violations or cross-border incursions.
