In a significant political move amid renewed speculation over a possible leadership change in Karnataka, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has announced that he will host a dinner for all Congress MLAs and MLCs on March 10.

The dinner, he said, is being organised to mark six years of his tenure as Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president (KPCC). Shivakumar clarified that it will be a celebratory gathering and that all legislators and members of the Legislative Council will be invited.

When asked whether Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah would also be invited, he responded, “I will invite everyone."

The announcement comes at a time when discussions around the Chief Minister’s post and internal dynamics within the Congress have intensified.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah hit back at Opposition leaders R Ashok and HD Kumaraswamy over their allegations that he was snooping on or keeping surveillance on DK Shivakumar. Dismissing the charge, Siddaramaiah described his relationship with Shivakumar as being “like milk and honey".

Echoing that sentiment, Shivakumar said, “Indeed our relationship is like that of milk and honey. We are good, and we will be good even after 2028."

On the perceived tussle over the Chief Minister’s chair, he maintained that there is nothing to comment on at this stage. “Time will answer. I don’t know about any talks between high command leaders about anything," he said.

Shivakumar also sought to position himself as someone who does not engage in internal power struggles. “I am a street fighter. I don’t fight for power. I don’t fight within the party, I fight outside the party," he said.

Emphasising his role as the KPCC president, he added that he is careful not to damage the party. “We built this party. I am aware of whatever is happening or what is not happening. I am being patient. I don’t want anyone to point out tomorrow that I’m doing anything that damages the party’s image, after all I’m the KPCC president first and then the Deputy CM," he said.
