A small plane was "hijacked" in Canada on Wednesday and was heading towards Vancouver Airport, forcing the authorities to temporarily suspend flight operations.

A small aircraft was “hijacked" in Canada, forcing the authorities to temporarily suspend operations at the busy Vancouver Airport, the police said on Wednesday.
The federal police received a report that the aircraft had been “hijacked" from the Vancouver Island region in the country and was heading towards the airspace over the Vancouver airport.
As a result of the alert, authorities suspended flight operations at one of the busiest airports in the country and diverted nine incoming flights, the news agency AFP reported.
The “hijacked" plane was a Cessna 172, operated by a flying club in Victoria.
“The suspect was the sole occupant of the aircraft," the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in the western Canadian province of British Columbia said.
The suspect was “arrested without incident" as soon as the flight landed in Vancouver at around 2.15 am IST (2045 GMT).
