Pakistani Army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir reportedly faced a highly embarrassing protocol snub in Munich, where he has been invited for an international security conference.
Field Marshal Asim Munir’s purported run-in with the security apparatus at the Munich Security Conference (MSC) has now gone viral on social media platforms.
According to sources, Field Marshal Munir was treated as any other common attendee and asked to furnish his identity proof. This has triggered an intense debate on his global standing and the validity of his claims to popularity.
The encounter took place when he was stopped by security guards at the venue, with one female officer reportedly demanding: “Stop – where is your ID? Please flip your ID card."

Sources told News18 that the officer treated him as a “lowly escort" rather than a visiting dignitary, insisting on a formal identification check before allowing him to proceed. The footage of the exchange has prompted widespread ridicule online, with critics saying this speaks volumes about his reputation.
Former Pakistani military personnel Adil Raja, however, lashed out at the perceived loss of dignity saying “no one knows him" on the global stage and noting how Field Marshal Munir “obediently introduces himself even to gatekeepers when asked".
For a figure who wields immense power within Pakistan, the protocol snub in Munich suggests that his international presence is being overshadowed. Experts said the incident is an embarrassment to Pakistan on an international level, highlighting a disconnect between the military’s domestic influence and its reception at elite global forums like the MSC.
