Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan on Wednesday voiced his concern over the ongoing attacks on minorities, including Hindus, in Bangladesh.

The former left-handed batsman condemned the brutal assault of a Hindu woman, who was allegedly gang-raped by two men, then later was tied to a tree and her hair cut off in a glaring display of lawlessness and atrocities against minorities in the country.

“Heartbreaking to read about the brutal assault on a Hindu widow in Bangladesh. Such violence against anyone, anywhere is unacceptable. Prayers for justice and support for the survivor," he said in a post on X.

Television actor Sourabh Raaj Jain also condemned atrocities against Hindus in the neighbouring country.

“Killing of people on the basis of their religion in their own country by their own countrymen, nothing can be more sad and inhuman than this barbarism. No religion is bigger than humanity, Shame on those who think otherwise. In solidarity with #bangladeshihindus," he said on Instagram.

Attack On Hindus In Bangladesh

Several Hindu individuals have been assaulted and attacked in Bangladesh after violent protests erupted in the neighbouring country following the death of July uprising organiser Sharif Osman Hadi in Singapore.

A 25-year-old Hindu man died on Tuesday after he jumped into a canal while trying to escape a mob that accused him of theft. Mithun Sarkar, a resident of Bhandarpur village, was chased by locals who suspected him of stealing, news agency ANI reported.

On Monday, Rana Pratap Bairagi, a Hindu businessman and acting editor of a newspaper was shot dead in Jessore district. A 40-year-old Hindu grocery shop owner Sarat Mani Chakraborty died on same day.

In another horrific incident, a Hindu woman was allegedly gang-raped by two men, who also tied her to a tree and cut off her hair in a glaring display of lawlessness and atrocities against minorities in the country. As per her complaint, two men allegedly forced their way into the house and raped her.

The accused also demanded 50,000 taka from the woman, and when she refused, they reportedly assaulted her relatives and drove them out of the house. When the woman tried to raise an alarm, the attackers tied her to a tree, cut off her hair, recorded the act, and circulated the footage online. The victim was tortured until she lost consciousness. She was rescued afterwards by local residents and rushed to a hospital.

The woman was raped on the same day as a Hindu businessman, Khokon Chandra Das (50), was brutally attacked and set on fire by a mob in Shariatpur.

Earlier, another Hindu man, Dipu Chandra Das, was lynched and burnt to death in Mymensingh over alleged blasphemy. After thrashing and killing Das, the mob hung his body from a tree and set it on fire. Another Hindu man, Amrit Mondal, was lynched to death by a mob over extortion allegations. Bajendra Biswas, a Hindu garment factory worker, was shot dead in Bangladesh’s Mymensingh in the same month.
