Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Monday said that the alliance talk with the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) is almost over, adding that the leaders had also recently visited Matoshree.

This is such a big alliance; it is not limited to Mumbai alone; it also includes Thane, Kalyan-Dombivli, Nashik, and Pune, said Raut.

His remark came only a day after he said on Sunday the meeting held earlier in the day was likely the final round of discussions between the two sides.

Raut met Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray on Saturday as discussions continued between the two parties over seat-sharing for the upcoming civic elections in Mumbai.

The meeting took place at Raj Thackeray’s residence, Shivtirth, in Dadar, and marked Raut’s second visit there in the past three days, signalling momentum in the talks.

Elections to 29 municipal corporations across Maharashtra are scheduled to be held on January 15.

“This (the talks which took place on Sunday), we believe, is the last meeting. In two to three days, there will be an official announcement," he said.

“The Congress has expressed reservations over the Raj Thackeray-led MNS. We have been trying to convince the Congress that to defeat the BJP, it is necessary to come together," he added.

A day earlier, MNS leader Nitin Sardesai had said that negotiations between the two parties—headed by cousins Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray—were nearing completion. However, he added that it was still unclear when an official announcement on the alliance would be made.
