US pop star Taylor Swift could possibly tour in China after reports surfaced that she has held preliminary discussions with authorities in the country.
Zhang Qi, deputy director of Shanghai’s culture and tourism bureau, confirmed on Tuesday that they had met with Swift’s team in the city.
“As for whether it can take place in the end, we feel that it will have to depend on the market and the attractiveness of the city of Shanghai. But we are optimistic that they may be hope this year," Qi said during an event, news agency Reuters reported.
Swift’s “Eras" global tour, which concluded last year, was the first to earn over $1 billion in revenue. Her performances in cities across the United States, Europe, and Asia brought economic benefits to these locations. However, China was absent from the tour, despite Swift’s widespread popularity in the country.
