In a crucial interaction with all Mahayuti MLAs in Mumbai on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined his vision for effective governance and public service. He told them to work in cohesion – united in their cause as an alliance – and always be accessible to the public.
In the meeting, which was held against the backdrop of strengthening the ruling Mahayuti’s administrative approach, Modi stressed on the importance of grassroots connection, collaboration, and delivering tangible results. He advised MLAs to focus on development needs of their constituencies.
ROADMAP FOR MAHARASHTRA
Modi highlighted the significance of building trust with constituents, and said leaders must be present with their people in moments of joy and grief. “Even if someone didn’t vote for you, help them after being elected. Treat everyone as your own," he said.
Citing the example of MNS chief Raj Thackeray’s visit to Gujarat to study development models, he encouraged MLAs to learn from successful initiatives in other states or constituencies. He told them to prepare a list of tasks they aim to achieve, and work towards them.
The Prime Minister’s address resonated as a roadmap for effective governance, urging MLAs to lead by example and maintain a people-first approach in their work. He underscored the importance of balancing personal and professional life, encouraging legislators to engage with society while also spending quality time with their families.
Suggesting practical measures, he recommended holding religious and social events to foster community ties and maintain a grounded connection with the people.
UNITY WITHIN COALITION
A key focus of the meeting was unity within the coalition. Modi urged the MLAs of all three Mahayuti partners – BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP – to work together. He said collaboration is essential for effective governance, advising legislators to approach ministers across parties, share meals, and refrain from viewing others as opponents.
He further said internal unity will strengthen the alliance and pave the way for achieving shared goals. He cautioned against engaging in a blame game or unnecessary criticism of the opposition.
“Respond to criticism with your performance and focus on the public’s welfare," he said, stressing on the importance of accountability and maintaining a positive outlook.
The PM encouraged MLAs to stay receptive to feedback from the public and evaluate the effectiveness of their initiatives.
A state government official said Modi met the MLAs over lunch at the INS Angre auditorium. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, his deputies Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, and most other MLAs of the BJP, NCP, Shiv Sena and smaller allies were present, sources said.
