Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has issued a stark warning from Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail and urged his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members to hold Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir “accountable and responsible" if anything happens to him in prison.

In a long post on X, the 72-year-old cricketer-turned-politician, who has been incarcerated since August 2023 after he was booked in multiple cases, claimed intensifying mistreatment of himself and his wife, Bushra Bibi, saying that their basic rights have been systematically stripped away.

“In recent days, the harsh treatment I face in jail has intensified. The same applies to my wife, Bushra Bibi. Even the television in her cell has been switched off. All basic rights — both human and those legally granted to prisoners — have been suspended for both of us," he said.

Khan said that he is being treated worse than convicted terrorists, saying that a military officer serving a sentence for murder was enjoying VIP treatment in jail.

“Meanwhile, I am subjected to relentless abuse. But no matter what they do, I have never bowed before oppression, and I never will," he said.

Stating that “there must be accountability for this," Khan claimed that he is fully aware that a colonel and the jail superintendent are carrying out actions “on the orders of Asim Munir."

“I give clear instructions to my party — if anything happens to me in jail, Asim Munir must be held accountable," the PTI founder said, adding, “I am ready to spend my life in jail, but I will never bow to tyranny."

Meanwhile, the PTI is set to launch a nationwide campaign from August 5, demanding former premier’s release and pressuring the Shehbaz Sharif government and the military establishment.

“When Asim Munir was removed from his post of ISI chief, he attempted to send a message to Bushra Bibi through Zulfi Bukhari (PTI leader), requesting a meeting. She firmly refused," Khan said.

“Since then, Asim Munir has had a personal grudge and is now inflicting this cruelty to emotionally break me. From the very beginning, the goal has been to pressure me by targeting Bushra Bibi," he claimed.

Who Is Asim Munir?

Asim Munir was promoted to the rank of Field Marshal in May for his role in the recent conflict with India, becoming the second top military officer in the country’s history to be elevated to the position.

Preferring to operate from behind the scenes, he only recently came out amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan. He was painted as a hero after the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22 — one of the deadliest strikes in the Valley that claimed 26 lives.
