US President Donald Trump on Friday announced he is appointing Sergio Gor, the White House personnel director, as the next ambassador to India and special envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs.

Gor has played a central role in Trump’s administration, overseeing the vetting of senior personnel choices across government. That included Trump’s short-lived nomination of tech billionaire Jared Isaacman to lead NASA, a bid that was withdrawn in June.

Beyond politics, Gor has close ties to the Trump family. He co-founded Winning Team Publishing with Donald Trump Jr., the publishing house behind two of the president’s books.
