President Donald Trump on Wednesday said he had received some positive messages regarding a potential ceasefire in Ukraine as US officials headed to Russia to discuss a proposed 30-day pause on the ongoing conflict between the two countries.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump expressed hope that Russia would agree to the ceasefire, saying, "We have people currently heading to Russia." He confirmed that envoys had been sent to present the Ukraine truce agreement to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

While Ukraine has agreed to the US-proposed 30-day ceasefire plan, Russia has stated that it is still "studying" the proposal and is awaiting a briefing from the US regarding the plan. The proposal calls for a halt to all fighting on land, sea, and in the air.

The joint US-Ukrainian proposal marks a significant development toward a potential truce, especially after Trump’s heated argument with Zelenskyy in the White House.

Following the argument, Trump halted military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine. However, the US renewed its support after Ukraine agreed to the truce proposal during talks in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

Since Russia's invasion in February 2022, the ongoing conflict has claimed tens of thousands of lives and caused immense suffering.
