Former US President Donald Trump suggested roping in the military to handle what he described as "the enemy from within" on Election Day, which is November 5. This comes as a man armed with guns and a fake pass was arrested outside Trump's rally in California in what authorities are suspecting to be a possible third assassination attempt on the Republican presidential candidate.

Trump, in an interview with Fox News's 'Sunday Morning Futures', said he was not worried about chaos from his supporters or foreign actors but said he was wary about "radical left lunatics".

"I think the bigger problem is the people from within. We have some very bad people. We have some sick people. Radical left lunatics I think it should be very easily handled by, if necessary, by the Guard, or if really necessary, by the military, because they can’t let that happen," Trump said.

"We have two enemies: We have the outside enemy, and then we have the enemy from within. And the enemy from within, in my opinion, is more dangerous than China, Russia and all these countries," he added.

Trump is accused of instigating his supporters to storm the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, in an attempt to thwart Congress's certification of his 2020 election loss. Trump has not accepted defeat and has pleaded not guilty to federal charges of interfering in the 2020 election in Washington DC, and Georgia, respectively.

Downplaying any threats from his voters, Trump said, "No, I don’t think — not from the side that votes for Trump."

When asked about the Justice Department arresting and charging an Afghan national for allegedly plotting a terror attack in the US on Election Day and citing the threat of "outside agitators" and undocumented immigrants, Trump shifted the blame to his political opponents.

"I think the bigger problem is the enemy from within, not even the people that have come in and destroying our country, by the way, totally destroying our country, the towns, the villages, they’re being inundated," he said in reference to immigrants whom Trump has repeatedly attacked.

The campaign of Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate, Kamala Harris, called out Trump for his comments, saying they should "alarm every American".

"Trump is suggesting that his fellow Americans are worse 'enemies' than foreign adversaries and he is saying he would use the military against them," Ian Sams, a spokesperson and adviser for Harris's campaign, said in a statement on Sunday, CNN reported.

"Taken with his vow to be a dictator on 'day one', calls for the 'termination' of the Constitution, and plans to surround himself with sycophants who will give him unchecked, unprecedented power if he returns to office, this should alarm every American who cares about their freedom and security," the spokesperson added.

Earlier, Trump had alleged "big threats" to his life from Iran and that an attack on him was a "death wish" for the attacker. He made the claim after he survived two assassination attempts.

On July 13, Trump narrowly survived a shooting when a bullet grazed his ear during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The second failed assassination attempt took place on September 15 when the former president was at the Trump Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
