Trump tariffs: Some of the world's poorest and war-torn countries were hit with punitive rates by the Trump administration. Syria faces one of the steepest tariffs at 41%.
US President Donald Trump imposed reciprocal tariffs ranging from 10% to 41% on imports from dozens of countries, with Syria, Laos and Myanmar bearing the maximum brunt. As announced earlier, imports from India will now be taxed at 25%, while its neighbours Pakistan and Bangladesh will face reduced levies of 19% and 20% respectively.
Tariffs on Canadian goods imported to the United States have been hiked from 25% to 35% amid escalating trade tensions with the Mike Carney-led administration and Trump's charge that the country has failed to curb the flow of illicit drugs.
The tariffs will come into effect in seven days' time, the White House said.
