US Iran Nuclear Deal: US President Donald Trump said that Washington and Tehran have begun direct discussions on Iran’s nuclear programme. Following talks with visiting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the Oval Office, Donald Trump said, “We’re having direct talks with Iran, and they’ve started. It’ll go on Saturday. We have a very big meeting, and we’ll see what can happen. And I think everybody agrees that doing a deal would be preferable."

This comes after Donald Trump sent a letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, urging negotiations. He said, “I’ve written them a letter saying, ‘I hope you’re going to negotiate because if we have to go in militarily, it’s going to be a terrible thing.’"

Earlier, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian rejected direct negotiations with the United States over Tehran’s nuclear programme. “We don’t avoid talks; it’s the breach of promises that has caused issues for us so far," he said, adding, “They must prove that they can build trust."

Donald Trump’s Warning To Iran Ahead Of Talks

Donald Trump said, “Maybe a deal’s going to be made, that would be great. But if not, Iran will be in great danger."

The US President’s warning comes as the Atomic Energy Agency reported that Iran is enriching uranium close to weapons-grade levels, despite Tehran’s claims that its programme is for peaceful purposes.

He earlier said, “If they don’t make a deal, there will be bombing. Doing a deal would be preferable to doing the obvious."

Iran Nuclear Deal

The United States exited the 2015 nuclear agreement under Trump’s leadership in 2018 and reimposed harsh sanctions on Iran. The renewed talks with Iran coincide with Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s second visit to the White House and Donald Trump’s tariff announcement which resulted in a global meltdown
