The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Thursday carried out a suicide attack targeting the Jandola military base in Tank District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The attack has led to heavy clashes at the base, with reports confirming that intense fighting is ongoing between militants and Pakistani security forces.
According to sources from the Kabul Frontline, the TTP launched a large-scale assault, with a suicide bomber detonating explosives inside the military compound. The explosion was followed by fierce fighting, with troops and militants engaged in combat within the base.
Meanwhile, Geo News reported that at least eight to nine militants were killed during the fighting. The publication also stated that terrorists attempted to attack the Jandola checkpost, but the attack was repelled by security forces. A suicide bomber was said to have blown himself up in a vehicle near the Frontier Corps (FC) camp.
This attack comes just one day after Pakistani security forces successfully killed all 33 militants who had hijacked the Jaffar Express train in Balochistan’s Bolan district. The militants had held passengers hostage in the mountainous region.
The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) had claimed responsibility for the attack which took place on March 11. The militants blew up the track, stopping nine coaches and the engine partially inside a tunnel. The train, which was carrying over 450 passengers, including 200 security personnel, became the centre of a high-stakes standoff between the BLA and Pakistani security forces.
