At least 28 workers were feared trapped after a tunnel collapsed in Wilmington, California, media reports suggested.
According to ABC News, more than a dozen workers were rescued following the incident, which happened on Wednesday night (local time).
The incident was reported at nearly 8 pm in the 1700 block of N Figueroa Street and involved at least 15 industrial tunnel workers, the report quoted the Los Angeles Fire Department.
More than 100 personnel of the Los Angeles Fire Department (FAFD), including Urban Search and Rescue, responded to the scene.
The collapse occurred about “six miles south from the response address, which is the sole tunnel access," LAFD said, according to ABC.
A video from the site showed LAFD responders rushing to rescue the trapped workers.

In an earlier X post, she wrote, “The City of Los Angeles has mobilized resources to the tunnel collapse in Wilmington. More than 100 LAFD responders have been deployed, including Urban Search and Rescue teams."
“Thank you to all of those who are acting immediately to respond to this emergency."
The construction site is believed to be a wastewater project for Los Angeles County’s sanitation department.
On July 6, authorities in Northern California found the bodies of all seven people missing since an earlier explosion at a fireworks warehouse that caused a wildfire and shook a tiny farming community.
The barrage of fireworks that exploded caused a massive blaze that led to other spot fires and collapsed the building in Yolo County, which lies about 64 kilometres northwest of Sacramento.
All human remains were recovered from the charred warehouse site. However, the identities of the deceased were being withheld pending family notifications.
