Two Guard officers were shot near the White House in Washington DC. The shooting prompted a heavy police response and ongoing investigations.
Two Guard members have been shot in Washington, DC, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed, as authorities responded to a major security incident just one day before Thanksgiving.
The Metropolitan Police Department said a shooting had taken place only a few streets from the White House but could not yet confirm the identities or conditions of those wounded. A NewsMax White House correspondent earlier reported that a Secret Service agent had told him the victims were Guard members.
A heavy police presence quickly locked down the area, with officers armed with assault rifles securing multiple blocks. Several police cars and ambulances were seen lining the streets as investigators moved in.
Authorities have released no further details as the investigation continues.
This is a developing story.
