Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday said that the ongoing conflict in Ukraine could end in “two months or less" if the West stops providing financial aid and military supplies to Kyiv.

Russian President Vladimir Putin made these comments during an interview with a reporter from Russian state TV.

“They will not exist for a month if the money and, in a broad sense, the bullets run out. Everything would be over in a month and a half or two," Putin said.

Putin also stated that while talks with Kyiv were possible, he would not engage with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, whom he called “illegitimate." He explained that Zelensky lost legitimacy because his presidential term had expired during the period of martial law.

Putin further added, “If he wants to participate in the negotiations, I will allocate people to take part in the negotiations."

Trump to speak with Putin

Putin’s comments came amid remarks from US President Donald Trump, who said he would soon speak to the Russian President and help settle the war.

Putin has recently said that Russia was ready for talks with the US on a broad range of issues.

“He wants to speak and will be speaking soon. I’ve spoken to (Ukrainian) President (Volodymyr) Zelensky numerous times, and they’d like to see peace. They would like to see an end to the war. I think President Putin would like to see an end to the war too," Trump had said on Saturday.

US President has repeatedly said that the conflict would never have started if he had been in office. “So, we’ll see if we can help it along. I think it’s a shame it’s a war that would have never happened," Trump added.

US, EU to maintain ‘pressure’ on Moscow

Meanwhile, in a related development, a European official on Tuesday said that the United States and the European Union had agreed on the need to maintain “maximum pressure" on Putin to end the war in Ukraine.

This agreement came after the first telephone call between EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and new US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

The official stated that the goal was to maintain pressure on Moscow to work towards a “just and sustainable peace" in Ukraine.
