Matt Gaetz, who was nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to be the US Attorney General, on Thursday announced that he was withdrawing from the selection process, citing concerns that his “confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction" for the new administration.
His decision to withdraw comes after widespread opposition, including from members of his own Republican Party.
“While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition," Gaetz said on X.
