Major homebuilders are drafting a proposal for a large-scale housing initiative dubbed “Trump Homes," aimed at addressing the US affordability crisis while channeling billions of dollars in private investment into residential development.
Companies including Lennar Corp. and Taylor Morrison Home Corp. have participated in shaping the plan, according to sources familiar with the discussions. The plan would involve constructing homes within a structured rent-to-own framework backed by private capital, Bloomberg reported.
In one version of the proposal, investors would initially own the properties and lease them to residents. After a three-year rental period, a portion of the tenants’ payments would be credited toward a future down payment, giving them the option to purchase the home.
