US-Iran Tensions LIVE: Tensions between the United States and Iran have sharply escalated, with reports suggesting Washington could be prepared for military action as early as Saturday pending a final decision by President Donald Trump.

The US has been steadily increasing its military presence in the Middle East, moving warships, aircraft and additional forces closer to the region amid stalled nuclear negotiations.

The developments follow recent negotiations in Geneva, where both countries held discussions on Tehran’s nuclear programme. However, the talks appear far from settled.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said progress had been made but the sides remained “far apart” on key issues. She added that the US expects Iran to return with further details soon and warned, “Iran would be very wise to make a deal with President Trump and with his administration.”

Trump also hinted at possible military action, stating the Diego Garcia base in the Indian Ocean may be required if Iran fails to agree to a deal.

Meanwhile, Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk urged citizens to leave Iran immediately, warning that the situation could deteriorate rapidly and evacuation may soon be impossible within hours.

Iran has also stepped up military activity, conducting naval drills with Russia and live-fire exercises near major shipping routes, while the United States positioned an aircraft carrier and additional combat aircraft nearby.

The growing standoff has triggered global concern over a wider regional conflict, with several countries calling for restraint and diplomacy as oil prices react to the uncertainty.
