Meanwhile, White House did not immediately respond to the appointment. Trump had earlier called the new Iranian Supreme Leader “a lightweight”.

“We want someone who will bring harmony and peace to Iran,” he said in an interview with Axios last week. The US President said he would “have to be involved in the appointment, like with Delcy in Venezuela.”
