US Stock Market Live Updates: US stocks opened higher on Thursday after data signaled continued economic resilience, easing concerns over a slowdown in consumer activity.

Retail sales rebounded more than expected in June, rising 0.6% after two straight monthly declines. Excluding autos, sales were up 0.5%, pointing to a broad-based recovery. Weekly jobless claims also fell, adding to evidence of labor market strength.

The S&P 500 futures edged higher in early New York trade. Treasury yields were little changed, while the dollar resumed its monthly ascent.

Money markets now see fewer than two Federal Reserve rate cuts this year, scaling back from three priced in earlier this month, as strong data tempers expectations for aggressive easing.

On Wednesday, the Wall Street indices seesawed after a White House official told CNBC that President Donald Trump was edging closer to firing Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell. The President, however, later denied the reports. The S&P 500 ended the session up 0.3%, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.2% after earlier falling 0.83%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 231 points, or 0.48%, higher after briefly slipping by 264 points, or 0.6%.
