US President Donald Trump on Wednesday said Venezuela had moved quickly to strike a deal with Washington after pressure was applied, claiming the country was now set to make more money in the coming months than it had over the last two decades.
Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Trump said Venezuela had been “bad with their policies" and argued that sustained pressure had forced a shift in approach.
“Once the attack ended, they said, let’s make a deal. More people should do that," Trump said.
US President Donald Trump has backed Maduro’s former deputy Rodriguez to lead the country, provided she gives US oil majors access to Venezuela’s rich oil reserves.
Trump claims that Washington effectively runs Venezuela since Maduro was snatched from his hideout on a Caracas military base and whisked to a New York jail.
He picked Rodriguez over popular opposition leader, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Corina Machado, to lead the country’s transition.
