Video: Iran releases footage of Khamenei's home destroyed in US-Israel strikes

Iranian state media on Thursday released what it described as the first-ever footage showing the destruction inside former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's compound in Tehran, coinciding with his burial after a weeklong funeral procession.

The 35-second video captures the aftermath of the US-Israeli strikes that killed Khamenei on February 28 this year, showing extensive devastation inside the Imam Khomeini Hussainiya, the main hall within the Tehran compound where the Supreme Leader regularly held key meetings and delivered public addresses.

The footage shows collapsed sections of the structure, twisted steel beams and large piles of rubble, underlining the scale of the damage caused by the joint military operation. Iranian state media said the video marks the first public glimpse of the compound following the attack.

Khamenei, 86, was killed on the opening day of the US-Israel war against Iran. Several members of his family, including his 14-month-old granddaughter, also died in the strike. His son, Mojtaba Ali Khamenei, who has since assumed the role of Iran's Supreme Leader, was injured in the attack.

The release of the footage coincided with Khamenei's burial in his hometown of Mashhad in northeastern Iran, bringing to an end an elaborate weeklong funeral procession that passed through Tehran, Qom, and the Shia holy cities of Najaf and Karbala in Iraq.

Before the burial, Khamenei's casket lay in state at Tehran's Grand Mosalla before being taken through the streets of Tehran and Qom. It was later transported to the Iraqi holy cities of Najaf and Karbala, where millions of mourners gathered to pay their respects before the coffin was returned to Iran.

The footage emerged as tensions between Iran and the United States escalated once again, raising concerns that the conflict could spiral back into a wider regional war.

The US military said on Wednesday it had launched fresh strikes on Iranian targets aimed at safeguarding shipping through the strategic Strait of Hormuz, hours after US President Donald Trump declared that the interim agreement ending hostilities was "over."

According to the United States, the latest operation was carried out in response to Tuesday's attack on three cargo vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The strikes targeted multiple military installations and port facilities along Iran's southern coast, triggering explosions, disrupting power supplies in some areas and rattling several coastal cities.

The renewed fighting followed Iranian attacks on merchant ships off the coast of Oman, which Washington cited as the immediate trigger for its military response.

By Thursday, the confrontation had intensified further. Air raid sirens sounded at least twice in Bahrain, home to the US Navy's Fifth Fleet headquarters, while Kuwait's military said it was intercepting incoming drones and missiles.

Iran's Revolutionary Guard claimed responsibility for attacks targeting Bahrain and Kuwait, although there was no immediate confirmation of damage in either country or elsewhere in the Gulf.
