Video: Iranian TV presenter shoots at UAE flag during live rifle demo

An Iranian state TV presenter fired at a UAE flag during a live broadcast on Friday, while speaking with a firearms' trainer in the studio.

Footage from a programme on Ofogh channel showed an instructional segment on handling a Kalashnikov rifle, in which a masked trainer in military-style clothing demonstrated how to prepare and fire the weapon to the host.

In the clip, the instructor is seen guiding the unnamed presenter through the procedure, instructing him to align his sight. The presenter responded by aiming at the UAE flag, earning the instructor’s approval. As the session progressed, the trainer reiterated the steps: "Align your sight, hold your breath." Then, the instructor gave the final command: “Fire.”

Local media reported that the segments were linked to the presenters' readiness to volunteer in a 'Sacrifice Life for Iran' campaign. Over 31 million people have already signed up for the voluntary programme in response to the war with U.S. and Israel, according to reports.

Iran's strikes on Gulf states in response to the US-Israeli attacks have targeted the UAE more than its neighbours, hitting civilian infrastructure and energy facilities.

However, unlike several Gulf peers, the UAE has a pipeline that allows it to divert some oil exports around the blockaded Strait of Hormuz, making it more able to withstand prolonged disruption. But the war risks severely damaging its role as a global economic centre that offers security and ease in the region.

The UAE has responded by doubling down on its ties with the United States and with Israel, with which it normalised relations in the 2020 Abraham Accords. It has also pushed for a tough line in any peace negotiations with Iran.
