A video circulating on social media has captured the moments immediately after two Guard members were shot near the White House on Wednesday. In the video, Washington, DC, police and federal agents can be seen swarming an intersection as they move in on a wounded suspect.
The shooting, which occurred just a day before Thanksgiving, briefly placed the White House under lockdown while President Donald Trump was in Florida.
The incident occurred in a crowded area lined with restaurants, offices and Metro entrances. West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey initially posted on X that both guardsmen -- members of his state’s Guard -- had died, but later issued a second statement citing "conflicting reports" about their status.
The unedited footage, recorded from a nearby building overlooking the intersection, opens with flashing police SUVs racing into the blocked-off road. Orange cones, construction barriers and shattered bus-shelter glass are scattered across the pavement.
Officers in bright yellow vests and tactical gear run toward a bus shelter, where a man dressed in dark clothing is seen on the ground. Multiple officers surround him with weapons drawn. The suspect appears to have already been shot -- Trump administration officials later confirmed he sustained non-life-threatening injuries -- and is quickly handcuffed and restrained by at least four officers.

WHITE HOUSE GOES INTO LOCKDOWN
The shooting triggered a multi-agency mobilisation involving the Secret Service, Metropolitan Police, Metro Transit Police and federal law enforcement. The proximity to the White House prompted immediate security measures, though the building later reopened.
President Donald Trump, who is in Florida for Thanksgiving, condemned the attack in a message posted on social media. He said the "animal" responsible "will pay a very steep price".
Vice President JD Vance was in Kentucky at the time.
Guard troops have been stationed across Washington since August, part of Trump’s sweeping federal deployment to crack down on crime and immigration in Democratic-led states. About 2,200 Guard members from the District and eight states -- including West Virginia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Ohio, South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama -- were in the city on Wednesday.
