US Health and Human Services secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr turned heads on Friday after his banter with West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey regarding the latter's weight. A video of his remarks, which has since gone viral on social media, showed him asking the 57-year-old Republican to lose 30 pounds and even suggested that he participate in a monthly "public weigh-in".

"I said to Governor Morrisey the first time I saw him, 'You look like you ate Governor Morrisey,'" RFK Jr retorted.

RFK Jr, 70, was in West Virginia to discuss the state's health initiatives, as part of 'Make America Healthy Again' (MAHA) He made the remarks shortly after Morrisey introduced him on the stage.

The Governor, who was seated close to RFK Jr, was a good sport though. In fact, RFK Jr's remarks came after Morrisey himself joked about his weight, saying everyone knows the "benefits of more exercise".

"I have asked Secretary Kennedy to be my personal trainer," the West Virginia Governor said, according to Mail Online.

He even said that RFK Jr was sizing him as a "major renovation project".

During his speech, the top official of US President Donald Trump's administration, asserted that he would put Morrisey on a "really rigorous regiment" and on a "carnivore diet".

At this point, RFK Jr suggested that the Governor does monthly public weigh-in. "You're welcome, Denise,' RFK Kr said referencing Morrisey's wife and West Virginia's first lady, Denise Morrisey.

The crowd at the event could be heard laughing and applauding the Trump official's remarks and his banter with the Governor throughout.

RFK Jr has pledged the MAHA campaign, in which he proposed various health reforms, including changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The former Democrat has frequently advocated for removing junk foods from diet that are linked to several health problems such as cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

In the past, he took aim at school lunches, telling Fox News, "We have a generation of kids who are swimming around in a toxic soup right now."
