Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday said that actor Vijay is “at best a vote-cutter, not a king," asserting that there is no possibility of any political alliance with Vijay’s Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Goyal said that many film stars have entered politics in the past but failed to sustain their influence.
He further said that the BJP-led alliance with the AIADMK would have a “dream home run" in Tamil Nadu, adding that people would not forgive DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin for what he termed an “anti-Sanatan stand."
Goyal reiterated that the BJP and AIADMK would contest together and expressed confidence in the alliance’s prospects.
“Vijay is at best a vote-cutter, not a king. We have seen many stars come and go. There is no possibility of an alliance. Our alliance, AIADMK, will have a dream home run as people won’t forgive Udhayanidhi for his anti-Sanatan stand," the Union Minister said.
TVK president and actor Vijay earlier struck a combative political tone in Tamil Nadu, declaring that neither the ruling DMK nor the opposition AIADMK deserved to govern the state and asserting that his party was ready to take them on without alliances.
Addressing a rally in Mahabalipuram, Vijay said the upcoming Assembly elections would be a turning point for the state’s political future. He told party workers that they were at a crucial stage in their political journey, adding that the polls were not just an election but a democratic battle in which they would play a leading role.
In a sharp attack on the two dominant Dravidian parties, Vijay accused both the AIADMK and the DMK of yielding to the Bharatiya Janata Party. “The AIADMK has directly surrendered to the BJP, and the DMK has indirectly surrendered to the BJP. The ones who ruled Tamil Nadu are now under the BJP. So there is no use. DMK now is also of no use," he said.
