A small aircraft crashed near a busy Florida highway on Friday morning, killing all three people aboard and injuring a person in a nearby car. The plane went down around 10:20 a.m., moments after it left Boca Raton Airport, heading toward Tallahassee.

The aircraft, a Cessna 310, crashed close to Interstate 95, near the airport, creating a blazing explosion on impact. Boca Raton Fire Rescue assistant chief Michael LaSalle reported that the crash ignited a fireball that also hit a car parked nearby, sending it onto railroad tracks.

The person injured in the car sustained severe injuries.

Authorities have closed roads around the site of the crash for safety reasons, and the railroad tracks nearby were closed after the accident pushed a vehicle onto them.

BREAKING: A plane has just crashed in Boca Raton, Florida.

Okay, I’m not trying to automatically blame Trump here—but seriously, is this normal?

Are we just seeing more media coverage of these crashes, or is there actually a rise in accidents because safety and oversight are pic.twitter.com/4Me7yTMmS0— Brian Krassenstein (@krassenstein) April 11, 2025

"We’re just sitting there, and I see the palm trees start catching on fire," said 31-year-old Josh Orsino, who was stopped at a red light near the area. "I thought it was an oil rig or a car crash-type thing."

Orsino said the blast caused panic amongst drivers. "Everyone was honking and trying to get off the overpass,” he recalled. “My first instinct was like, I got to get off this bridge. I’m getting out of here."

LOCALS SHOCKED AS CRASH SENDS SMOKE AND FLAMES INTO SKY

Miguel Coka, 51, who works near the Boca Raton Airport, said he and his coworkers felt a strong rumble when the crash occurred.

"There was a rumble, and everyone in the building felt it," Coka said. "We are all shocked." He filmed the smoke and flames from the crash from his office balcony.

Mayor Scott Singer of Boca Raton shared his condolences and assured the public that authorities are working on the investigation.

"We are deeply saddened to confirm that a plane crash occurred earlier today within our community," Singer said. "Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragic event. We ask for patience and respect for the families involved as investigations continue."

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have started an investigation, with the NTSB taking the lead.

This Florida tragedy occurred just one day after another flight disaster in New York, in which a helicopter broke apart midair and crashed into the Hudson River, killing six people.
