A United Airlines flight avoided a crash landing at Orlando Airport following a mechanical glitch, Fox 35 reported, citing an official from the airline. The Airbus 321, which was carrying 200 passengers and six crew members from Chicago’s O'Hare Airport to Orlando, blocked the runway, and the passengers had to leave the flight immediately, following the trouble landing.
According to a report by News6, an Oklahoma-based media outlet, the airline immediately arranged buses for passengers to reach the Orlando Airport terminal. They further deployed several teams to remove the Airbus from the runway.
Witnessing the trouble in landing, members of the Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighter department also rushed to the spot. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a ground stop due to an aircraft emergency, which was later updated to a ground delay. Several flights experienced a delay in their departure following the incident.
The reason behind the mechanical glitch is yet to be known. However, the weather could be a factor behind the delay. Orlando reported rainy, windy, and cold weather on Sunday.
As per Fox 35, the Orlando Airport registered a wind gust of 54 mph. The nearby Orlando Executive Airport reported a gust of 56 mph.
Following the windy weather, the Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for several parts of Brevard County along the East Coast of Florida.
