Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has asked the media to stop speculating about differences between him and Minister Satish Jarkiholi, saying their recent meeting was routine and not unusual in political circles.
Speaking at the KIADB’s new office building, Shivakumar said their interaction at a wedding had been wrongly portrayed as a sign of tension.
“It is true that Satish Jarkiholi and I met at a wedding last evening. We discussed state and the party. We are colleagues, why do you paint us as enemies?" he said. Shivakumar added that such meetings happen frequently.
“We may be in the Cabinet meeting together in the afternoon and then meet for dinner in the evening. Or may meet for breakfast in the morning. Friendships and bonding are common in politics," he said.
Shivakumar also shared that he had a separate hour-long discussion with Minister MB Patil. He said the conversation focused on development and the need to attract investment amid competition from neighbouring states.
“We discussed several aspects on how to attract investors and competition from Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Telangana is also holding a global summit soon. We discussed how to compete at the global level. It is natural for Cabinet colleagues to discuss state’s progress," he said.
Minister Satish Jarkiholi also confirmed the meeting, saying they had met while attending the same wedding ceremony. He said they spent time together over dinner and also spoke privately.
“We spoke separately for 15 minutes, why, perhaps even more," he said. He stressed that the meeting happened by chance.
“They did not know we were coming, and we did not know they were coming. We met on the occasion of the wedding," he said, denying that the visit was arranged for him.
Jarkiholi also rejected talk about discussions on the KPCC President post, saying the matter has not been raised at any level in the party. He said there is no question of seeking support, as the decision rests entirely with the party high command.
