US President Donald Trump on Monday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him one of the few global leaders who “get things done," after the two leaders spoke and signalled progress on a long-pending India-US trade deal.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said the conversation with PM Modi covered a wide range of issues, including trade, global security, and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
“Our amazing relationship with India will be even stronger going forward. Prime Minister Modi and I are two people that GET THINGS DONE, something that cannot be said for most," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Trump announced that the United States would reduce reciprocal tariffs on Indian goods from 25 per cent to 18 per cent, indicating a thaw in bilateral trade ties that had been strained by steep duties.
However, an additional 25 per cent tariff on certain Indian exports to the US remains in place.
