India's passport ranks 82nd in the Henley Passport Index 2024, granting visa-free access to 58 countries. According to a Compare The Market report, it costs Rs 1,400 and Rs 19,000 to issue a passport. A 10-year US passport is priced at Rs 13,868.

Passports, the most important travel document for international travel, are issued to citizens by most governments for a fee. The cost generally depends on the applicant’s country of residence and varies from country to country.
According to a Compare The Market report, obtaining a passport in 2024 costs between Rs 1,400 and Rs 19,000. The report has ranked the cheapest passports globally.
The report states that the UAE has the cheapest passports in the world, costing just Rs 1,400. It is valid for 10 years. India offers the second cheapest passport globally as of April 2024, priced at Rs 1,524.95.
Along with African countries like Kenya and South Africa, some European countries like Hungary and Spain also have some of the cheapest passports in the world.
On this list, the Indian passport offers the best value in terms of ‘cost per year’. Meanwhile, for people aged 30 and over, Spain’s passport offers great value as one of the most powerful passports in the world, with visa-free access to 194 countries. In the Henley Powerful Passport Index 2024, the Indian passport is ranked 82nd, offering visa-free travel to 58 countries.
Mexico boasts the world’s most expensive passport. Valid for 10 years, it costs approximately Rs 19,481.75. Mexico also claims the fourth and ninth spots on the list of priciest passports for its six-year and three-year validity options, respectively. Following closely behind is Australia, where a 10-year passport costs Rs 19,041. In comparison, a 10-year US passport is priced at Rs 13,868.
