US President Donald Trump said that the administration is collaborating with state and local officials in Texas to respond to the devastating floods that occurred yesterday. First Lady Melania and President Trump extended their prayers to the families affected by the tragedy. First responders are actively working on the ground to mitigate the situation.
“The Trump Administration is working with State and Local Officials on the ground in Texas in response to the tragic flooding that took place yesterday," Trump posted on Truth Social, adding that the Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, will be there shortly.
“Melania and I are praying for all of the families impacted by this horrible tragedy. Our Brave First Responders are on site doing what they do best. GOD BLESS THE FAMILIES, AND GOD BLESS TEXAS!" he added.
At least 27 people, including nine children, are dead after torrential rain triggered flash flooding in parts of central Texas early Friday, according to officials.
According to the authorities, more than 20 girls are unaccounted for at Camp Mystic in Kerr County, which is located along a river that rose more than 20 feet in less than two hours. As a desperate search continues, the mother of a 9-year-old camper told CNN she learned her daughter has died.
First responders worked tirelessly overnight to rescue flood victims, evacuating over 850 people as of this morning, with helicopters playing a crucial role in the efforts, authorities said.
Parts of central Texas saw a month’s worth of rain in just a few hours, prompting multiple flash flood emergencies. Hunt, a town near Kerrville, received about 6.5 inches in just three hours early Friday, which is considered a one-in-100-years rainfall event for the area.
