Who will be Vice President Kamala Harris' Vice President

The Republicans are ahead of the Democrats, not just in approval ratings, but even while zeroing in on the presidential and the vice-presidential nominees. Joe Biden announced his decision to step aside from the 2024 presidential race and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party's presidential candidate. Though Harris will have to secure his nomination, it will be interesting to see who her vice-presidential choice is.

The decision by Biden to pull out of the race comes after three weeks of heated debates in the media and within the Biden administration regarding his future in the race after his poor performance in the first presidential debate on June 27.

Harris, 59, is the first-ever Indian-American elected as Vice President of the US in 2021 and now stands as the likely Democratic presidential nominee.

Biden's endorsement has significantly boosted Harris's candidacy for President, making her the frontrunner ahead of other potential contenders, including popular Cabinet members and Democratic governors like Gavin Newsom from California, Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, and Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania.

Harris, who has been serving as the first female, first Black, and first South Asian vice president since 2021, can now directly assume the Biden campaign’s $240 million in funds since their campaign account was registered with the Federal Election Commission in the name of both candidates, as she was earlier his running mate.

With Biden quitting the race and endorsing Kamala Harris, she will run against Donald Trump in the 2024 election, which is going to be held on November 5, just 106 days away.

Earlier, at the Republican Convention, Donald Trump, who officially became the Republican Presidential nominee, selected JD Vance as his running mate.

Now the question arises - who would be Kamala Harris's running mate?

There are nine potential candidates on the list for Kamala Harris's running mate.

Governor Roy Cooper - Governor of North Carolina, Cooper, 67, could bring geographic diversity and appeal in a battleground state.

Known for his strong approval ratings and bipartisan support, Harris and Cooper have campaigned together since Biden's weak performance in the June debate, with the governor warning against the return of "Donald Trump’s America", according to Vox.

Governor Josh Shapiro - Governor of Pennsylvania, Shapiro, 51, is a popular centrist who could help secure a critical swing state. Known for his work as attorney general and his bipartisan legislative achievements, Shapiro has also been a vocal supporter of Israel, potentially attracting moderate voters.

Governor Andy Beshear - Governor of Kentucky, Beshear, 46, has won twice in a state that heavily supported Trump. He’s been praised for his management of the Covid-19 pandemic and his handling of crises like a bank mass shooting and severe flooding.

Before becoming governor, he was Kentucky’s attorney general. Beshear could also appeal to some swing voters.

Governor JB Pritzker - Governor of Illinois, Pritzker, 59, has established a national profile and is a vocal critic of Trump. As governor, Pritzker has built a modest national profile by criticising Trump and advocating for increased federal resources to handle immigration issues in Illinois.

Senator Mark Kelly - Senator from Arizona, Kelly is a former astronaut with a high profile and a reputation for bipartisan cooperation.

His advocacy for gun control and appeal in a swing state make him a notable contender for Harris’s running mate.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer - Governor of Michigan, Whitmer, 52, has national recognition and a strong track record on infrastructure and health care. She has often challenged Republican critics, including Trump, particularly those who opposed her pandemic policies.

Whitmer’s appeal in a key swing state could bolster the Democratic chances.

Secretary Pete Buttigieg - Secretary of Transportation and former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, Buttigieg, 42, is a media-savvy advocate for the Biden-Harris administration. As a young, openly LGBTQ candidate, he brings representation and appeal to centrist voters.

Governor Gavin Newsom - Governor of California, Newsom, 56, is a prominent progressive voice within the party. He has been a strong advocate for several national Democratic issues, such as women's rights, immigration, and the economy. He notably survived a recall election last year.

Governor Wes Moore - Governor of Maryland, Moore, 45, became the state’s first Black governor in 2023. He has an impressive background as a New York Times bestselling author, Rhodes Scholar, combat veteran, and former CEO of the Robin Hood Foundation, an anti-poverty organisation, which enhances Harris’s appeal, according to Politico.

With Republicans having decided on Donald Trump and JD Vance as their candidates, it is to be seen if the Democrats agree to Vice President Kamala Harris as their presidential candidate, and who her vice-presidential running mate is.
