Xiaomi has offered its own app store on its phones for many years in India but that could change very soon.
Xiaomi users could see a big change on their phones in 2025
Xiaomi is planning for a big change on its Android phones for Indian users that we could see happen early next year. The company has offered its GetApps for Xiaomi and Redmi phones in the country for years, but we are likely to see a major overhaul that will include an India-based setup. Multiple reports say that the GetApps will be replaced with the Indus App Store for all its users in the country from January 2025.
Goodbye GetApps But Why?
Reports say Xiaomi is notifying all its users about the change that will be applied automatically. So basically, the Xiaomi and Redmi users will start seeing the Indus App Store instead of the GetApps from January next year. We would like for the company to make it official before talking further about this change but nevertheless it is an interesting development for the brand.
Xiaomi has been facing intense pressure from the Indian authorities for its alleged tax issues, for which it has been reprimanded previously. Bringing another local element to its products will help the brand ease those concerns. More importantly, the Indus App store run by PhonePe will get a huge boost if it manages to come pre-installed on Xiaomi phones in the country.
Removing GetApps should also mean the annoying ads and notifications go away for good and Indus App Store sees its reach amplify significantly. Having said that, Google Play Store is the de-facto app store for Android users in the country, but good to have other options, especially if it brings the make in India element into the picture.
