A fresh controversy surfaced after a Youth Congress member threatened to lay siege to the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) office amid the row surrounding Rahul Gandhi’s “vote chori" allegations, drawing the ire of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Zeenat Shabrin, the President of Mumbai Youth Congress, repeated Rahul Gandhi’s vote theft allegations in the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections and called for ‘gheraoing’ the Election Commission office.

“We (Mumbai Youth Congress) have raised awareness in the local trains, the metro and even the vegetable markets. We will not stay silent. If the vote theft is not stopped, we will lay siege to the Election Commission, and take this as a warning," she said.

The row escalated when a Congress supporter called for setting fire to the ECI office and dragging out Election Commissioners. “The matter shouldn’t stop just at surrounding them; we should set fire to the Election Commission like this and drag the Election Commissioners out onto the street," wrote the Congress supporter.

BJP Attacks Congress Over ‘Danga Khori’

The BJP reacted sharply to the comments, accusing the Congress of spreading disinformation and inciting riots. “They are provoking and inciting violence. This shows that it was never about vote chori," said BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla.

“The real intention is how to attack the Constitutional bodies. This is not about ECI, but EMI – Emergency Mindset of Indira’s Grandson. Rahul Gandhi feels that if he loses an election, then samvidhaan tantra (constitutional system) has to bow before parivaar tantra (family system) and danga tantra (system of riots)," he added.

Earlier this month, Rahul Gandhi alleged massive vote fraud in the Haryana Assembly polls last year – calling it his much-awaited “H-bomb". He alleged that 25 lakh votes were stolen in Haryana, which has a total of 2 crore voters. “This means one in eight voters in Haryana are fake, 12.5 per cent," he said.

One of the most talked-about points of his allegations was the photo of a Brazilian model, accusing the BJP of using her image across several polling booths to cast fake votes. According to Gandhi, the same photograph appeared 22 times across at least 10 different polling booths.

The event began with the woman’s photograph displayed on screen, captioned, “Yeh kaun hai?" The woman in the photograph, identified as Larissa, a Brazilian model and influencer, has since reacted with disbelief after discovering her image being circulated in Indian political debates.
