“One of the first steps toward fully ending the war could be ending strikes on energy and other civilian infrastructure. I supported this step, and Ukraine confirmed that we are ready to implement it. Our teams discussed this step in Jeddah. The American side also proposed an unconditional ceasefire on the frontline, and Ukraine accepted this proposal as well. We will continue working to make this happen," Zelenskyy said in a post on X.

Zelenskyy also thanked his US counterpart for a “positive, very substantive, and frank conversation" and “productive start to the work of the Ukrainian and American teams in Jeddah."

I had a positive, very substantive, and frank conversation with President of the United States Donald Trump @POTUS. I thanked him for a good and productive start to the work of the Ukrainian and American teams in Jeddah on March 11—this meeting of the teams significantly helped in moving toward ending the war. We agreed that Ukraine and the United States should continue working together to achieve a real end to the war and lasting peace. We believe that together with America, with President Trump, and under American leadership, lasting peace can be achieved this year," he said.

Zelenskyy further hinted for an another meeting between officials of Ukraine and the United States in Saudi Arabia in the coming days for a second round of peace talks.

“Ukrainian and American teams are ready to meet in Saudi Arabia in the coming days to continue coordinating steps toward peace," he added.

After the call, Trump, in a post on Truth Social, said the negotiations process is very much on track. He said that the discussion between the two leaders was based on the call made yesterday with President Putin in order to align both Russia and Ukraine in terms of their requests and needs.

During the conversation, Trump raised the possibility of the United States taking ownership of Ukrainian power plants. “American ownership of those plants would be the best protection for that infrastructure and support for Ukrainian energy infrastructure," Karoline Leavitt told a briefing as reported by AFP.

Trump held talks with Zelenskyy a day after holding discussions with Russia’s Vladimir Putin. Tuesday’s call between Trump and Putin did not result in the breakthrough ceasefire Ukraine had been hoping for after supporting the US-led proposal last week.

However, during the call, Putin agreed to pause strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities for 30 days, following his conversation with Trump, after rejecting the US president’s earlier proposal to halt all hostilities.
