Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky entered the international spotlight following a contentious exchange with US President Donald Trump at the White House amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.
After a mineral deal with the US fell through, Zelensky secured substantial support from the UK and other European countries. Known for his trademark military-style casual dress, Zelensky’s path to the presidency is unusual, given his background as a comedian. His diverse career in acting, business, and stock market investments has reportedly brought him millionaire status.
In 2022, at the onset of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Forbes estimated Zelensky’s net worth to be approximately $30 million (Rs 262.40 crore at present). Before assuming the presidency in 2019, Zelensky’s wealth stemmed from his career as a film actor, producer, and comedian. He owned the production company Kvartal-95 Studio, in which he sold his majority stake upon becoming president.
According to a Forbes report, Zelensky owns a flat in Ukraine’s most expensive building, along with two additional apartments in Kyiv. Some media reports also suggest that he possesses five yachts and three private jets. Additionally, there are claims of investments in companies like Meta and Tesla, although Forbes states that the accuracy of this information remains unverified.
Zelensky’s wife, Olena Zelenska, reportedly holds a bank deposit of around $2 million and possesses government bonds. Her jewellery, cars, and other assets are estimated to be worth close to $1 million.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022, has had a devastating impact on the Ukrainian economy. The country’s billionaires have experienced substantial losses during this period. Forbes’ 36th annual billionaires list, compiled at the beginning of the conflict, indicated that only seven billionaires remained in Ukraine. Zelensky was notably absent from the list.
