US President Donald Trump on Sunday held a phone call with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, discussing the latest developments in the Middle East and military cooperation between the two countries, following his recent criticism of the British leader over the US-Israeli war in Iran.

Trump had expressed strong disapproval of Starmer’s initial refusal to allow the UK to play any role in the ongoing US-Israeli war in Iran, which began on February 28. Just a day earlier, the US President said on social media, “We don’t need people that join Wars after we’ve already won."

Reportedly, Starmer angered Trump by initially refusing to permit the use of British bases for the US’s initial strikes on Iran. Since then, Trump has openly voiced his dissatisfaction with the British premier.

In a fresh development, the two leaders discussed military cooperation between the UK and US through the use of RAF bases to support the collective defence of partners in the region, according to the UK government.

“The leaders began by discussing the latest situation in the Middle East and the military cooperation between the UK and US through the use of RAF bases in support of the collective self-defence of partners in the region," the UK Prime Minister’s office said.

Starmer also conveyed his heartfelt condolences to Trump and the American people following the deaths of six US soldiers in the ongoing conflict.

The statement added that both leaders looked forward to “speaking again soon."
