Air India extends Tel Aviv-Delhi flight suspension till September end

Air India has extended the suspension of its Tel Aviv-Delhi flights till the end of September amid renewed hostilities and rising security concerns in West Asia. The airline has been repeatedly extending the halt on the route for several months because of the prevailing security situation in the region.

The latest decision comes after fresh tensions over the past 10 days, with the US and Iran stepping up military activity. American forces targeted bridges, water desalination plants and electrical facilities in Iran, while Tehran hit US bases in allied countries across West Asia.

A senior Air India executive heading the airline's Israel operations told PTI that the flights have been further suspended "till September end due to security concerns." Several other major international carriers are also following a "wait and watch" approach as tensions continue in the region.

Besides Israeli carriers such as El Al, IsraAir, Arkia and Air Haifa, only a few other international airlines have been operating. This has created major difficulties for people trying to travel abroad for work, holidays or family visits.

Weeks after the Iran-US conflict began at the end of February, Air India in April said it would suspend operations till the end of May. The suspension was later extended till the end of July and has now been pushed further till the end of September. The halt has added to the worries of more than 40,000 Indians living in Israel who want to travel to India for personal or professional reasons, or to leave amid the uncertainty in the region.

In sum, Air India has once again prolonged the suspension of its Tel Aviv-Delhi service as security concerns persist, with the move affecting travel plans for Indian residents in Israel and others relying on the route.
